Gurukulam Vijayan – General Secretary of Indian Relief Committee Dubai

Gurukulam Vijayan is a distinguished community leader and the long-standing General Secretary of the Indian Relief Committee, Dubai, the first Malayali organization formed in 1973 with the mission of offering charity services. For more than fifteen years, he has been the driving force behind this organization, which was once the only body providing passport services in Deira–Dubai.

Recognized for his dedication to social welfare and cultural preservation, Gurukulam Vijayan remains an influential figure within the Malayali community in the UAE.

Early Career and Professional Journey

The career journey of Gurukulam Vijayan began in 1975 when he joined the prestigious Dubai Petroleum Company as the Head of the Printing Department. With his expertise in Printing Technology, he helped the department reach new heights and continued his dedicated service for 25 years.

In 2000, he joined the Al Abbas Group of Companies as Operations Manager of Copy Me, where he worked for a decade before stepping into entrepreneurship.

In 2010, he established his own business, Gurukul Advertising Gift Supply LLC, Dubai, where he currently serves as the Managing Director. Alongside this, he is also the Managing Partner of Mono – Electrical and Hardware LLC, Sharjah.

Leadership, Community Service & Cultural Contributions

For nearly 38 years, Gurukulam Vijayan has been at the forefront of organizing major cultural events in Dubai, upholding the rich heritage of India and Kerala.

He is active in several social and cultural organizations, including:

Education and Early Life

Educated at Varkala Sree Narayana Gurukulam, he was later sent to study Printing Technology in Kollam. After completing his course, he returned to Gurukulam to establish Mangala Press, where he worked for fourteen years, training a dedicated team in printing.

Family Background

Born in Medical College, Ulloor in Thiruvananthapuram district, Gurukulam Vijayan hails from the respected Kunnil family of Manampur near Kallambalam.
He is the son of:

  • Late Govindan – A devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi and a Freedom Fighter who participated in the Salt Satyagraha

  • Kunjulakshmi – A homemaker

He now resides in Dubai with his wife Sobha, and they are blessed with one daughter, Nitya Vijayan, who completed her graduation in Commerce from Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham.
