Mini M. Joy, who has done her Nursing Course in Govt. District Hospital, Kollam and specialized in ICU and Cardio Thoracic Nursing from Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad and working in Rashid Hospital, Dubai for the past 22 years is a well known Social Worker, but keeps a very low profile. She is the recipient of the “8th International Women’s Day Excellence Award-2009 “, for Community Service. She is also the recipient of “H.G. Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius Memorial Award-2011”, from St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Dubai for her contribution in the field of Humanitarian Social Activities in the Gulf Region.
Before joining Rashid Hospital, she worked in St. Johns Hospital, Anchal; Apollo Super Speciality Hospital, Hyderabad and Al Zahra Hospital, Sharjah, UA E.
Mini M. Joy is an active Member of “Valley of Love”( Dubai based Non-Governmental Organisation [NGO], that tries to offer assistance, solace and hope for anyone in need, irrespective of their nationality, caste, creed or region).
She is a humanitarian activist who finds time, even amidst her busy duty schedules in the hospital, for social work. Her activities include service to the needy patients, other charity services and different kinds of help to the downtrodden sections of the society.
It is the quality of selfless service and determination to help the needy as well as her style of doing follow up activities which make Mini. M. Joy different from others who are engaged in similar activities.
She is a social worker who co-ordinates with those people who believe in humanity and are interested in spending their time and resources for the needy, but doesn’t know by what means they could indulge in such activities. Mini M. Joy guides and help such people by being with them during visit to the hospitals, labour camps and prisons.
She also asks interested people to visit the poor patients in hospitals at least once a week, so as to enable them to have a feeling of satisfaction of having spend their time for some constructive activities. She also believes that, such activities would be a source of mental support for the patients.
Mini M. Joy also collect clothes, bags, caps and footwear and distributes it among the poor and needy people of the society. She also extends financial help with the support of resourceful persons to the dependents of those patients who are genuinely needy.
In the event of any accident or death, she extends necessary assistance and advice to the people, as to which hospital they need to contact. She also advise them as to which Police Station or other Government Departments are to be contacted. Apart from this, she also guides them to go to the respective Labour Offices, Courts of Law as well as gives information about the Consulate Services and working hours of these offices. For those who face any problem, she makes necessary arrangements through the Indian Embassy.
She extends a helping hand to even the needy in-patients in the hospital by providing them with food prepared at home. Her services are not limited to any particular community or people from any particular region, but to all those who are deserving.
She used to extend all possible help, to those poor patients who doesn’t have anyone to help by making necessary arrangements for their support and also for sending them back home. She also visits those who were send back home whenever she gets time and an opportunity.
Apart from all these activities, Mini M. Joy takes special attention for Palliative Care. Along with the help of others she also extends all possible help for building houses and also for conducting marriages for those poor and needy people who seek help from home. She extends all assistance for the education of children too.
Mini M. Joy who is engaged in Social service and Charity activities is a Member of the organizations like ‘Sneha Thazhvara’. She is also an active member of ‘Karuthal’in Dubai Marthoma Parish.
Hailing from Adoor in Pathanamthitta District, she belong to the Veerappallil family and is born to V.M. Joy, who was a Veterinary Live Stock Inspector and Aleyamma Joy, a house wife. She is married to T.M .Thomas (Jose) an Accounts Manager who is also engaged in Charity activities. The couple is blessed with a son, Joel Joy Thomas who is currently doing his 1st year MBBS course, at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Nagpur and a daughter Julie Ann Thomas, studying in the 10th Grade at The Indian High School, Dubai.
